Tensions between the United States and Iran have flared anew, as both nations exchanged airstrikes in a development that may herald a return to widespread hostilities in the Middle East. The recent escalation began when the US military launched strikes against sites associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), citing these attacks as retaliation for Iran’s attempted assaults on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and its threats against American personnel.
In response, Iran unleashed missile and drone assaults targeting American interests across several Middle Eastern countries, including Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq. The Jordanian military reported intercepting ten ballistic missiles launched from Iran, with three additional missiles landing in isolated areas. Fortunately, there were no immediate confirmations of casualties or direct hits on a US military training facility.
Iran’s actions also included claims of attacks on a US base near Erbil in Iraq, with missile and drone activities noted in Kuwait, and air-raid sirens activated in Bahrain. US President Donald Trump has warned that any additional Iranian attacks would be met with a significantly more forceful response. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have declared their intent to employ both military and diplomatic strategies to safeguard their interests.
